Rüsselsheim/Stuttgart. The new #opel #amperae is already outshining its competitors when it comes to awards. A Best Cars jury consisting of 27 editors-in-chief of the magazine auto motor und sport and its partner publications from 21 countries presented the electric range champion from #opel with the ‘International #paulpietschaward 2017’ for innovative technology. The #amperae charged to victory by amassing 41 percent of the votes, giving it more than ten percentage points more than its closest rival.
“The #amperae is the electric car for everyday use. Nobody has to worry about not being able to continue his or her journey due to a flat battery, thanks to its range of over 500 kilometers. And, as the ‘Paul Pietsch Award’ demonstrates, the #amperae is not just visionary, it is also reality – it will be at dealerships this year already,” said #opel CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann at the award ceremony held in the International Congress-Center Stuttgart.
The special prize for outstanding technology concepts has been a permanent fixture since 1989. It is named after Paul Pietsch, a former Grand Prix racer and co-founder of the Motor Presse Stuttgart. The conditions for the nomination of an innovation are series-production readiness and comprehensible added value for the customers in the areas environment, comfort, safety and economy.
The #opel engineers considered all of these aspects during the development of the #amperae. The electric car from Rüsselsheim is opening a new chapter in electro-mobility with its range of over 500 kilometers (measured based on NEDC test cycle in kilometers: >500, preliminary figure). The star of the last Paris Motor Show offers at least 100 kilometers of additional range on a single charge compared to its competitors. Even in accordance with the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) cycle, which reflects real driving conditions much more closely, the #amperae offers a range of 380 kilometers.
When the #opel #amperae finally does need recharging, 30-minutes at a public 50 kW DC fast-charger will add a further 150 kilometers of range (average value, measured based on preliminary NEDC tests) to the Ampera-e’s new-generation lithium-ion battery. Elsewhere, maximum torque of 360 Nm is responsible for the newcomer’s electrifying temperament. The performance of the electric motor is equivalent to 150 kW/204 hp (PS) thus making effortless starts from a standing position or highway access two of the #opel Ampera-e’s main strengths. The compact electric car accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.2 seconds and mid-range acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h is successfully completed in 4.5 seconds (preliminary figures). Top speed is electronically limited to 150 km/h for the benefit of the overall range.
