Nissan once again received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award, the highest honor given to top organizations dedicated to protecting the environment by making their operations more energy efficient.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that #nissan has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its continued commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy management.

"Nissan is honored to once again be recognized as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the year," said Rebecca Vest, vice president, Corporate Development and Social Responsibility. "We continue to make improvements to our operations that reduce our environmental footprint as we manufacture the highest quality vehicles sold in North America."

Nissan's efforts to reduce energy usage include switching to more efficient LED lighting, repairing compressed air leaks, improving industrial motor efficiency and using an environmentally friendly paint process that has cut energy usage by 30 percent.

"By continued collaboration with ENERGY STAR, #nissan is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate climate change," said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. "I'm proud to recognize #nissan with the highest form of ENERGY STAR recognition, as the winner of the 2016 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award. #nissan demonstrates a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations."

Nissan manufacturing operations in the U.S. include the #nissan Vehicle Assembly Plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, which assembled more vehicles than any other automotive plant in North America in 2015. This facility and Nissan's plant in Canton, Mississippi, also were recently awarded the ENERGY STAR Certification for the tenth year in a row, signifying Nissan's spot among the top 25 percent of the automotive manufacturing industry for superior energy management.

The 2016 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing harmful carbon pollution through superior energy efficiency efforts. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors. Nissan's accomplishments were recognized at an #event in Washington, D.C., on April 13.
