Joint position on the Energy Efficiency Directive review

The #energy Efficiency Directive is the cornerstone of EU efficiency policy and it is currently being reviewed. #wwf believes this is a unique opportunity to increase its ambition by:

  • Setting a binding 40% #energy savings target by 2030: higher #energy efficiency means higher benefits for society and individuals. For example, with a 30% #energy saving target, instead of a 40% the EU will loose jobs, loose money and pollute more.
  • Reinforce the provisions on #energy Savings Obligation Schemes (Art.7) by removing the current loopholes and exemptions that dilute the effectiveness of this article.

This position paper, developed jointly with CAN Europe, provides recommendations to the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament on how to improve the #energy Efficiency Directive to ensure it is in line with the ambition of the Paris Agreement.
