JEAN-ÉRIC VERGNE SECURES THIRD IN BERLIN TO EXTEND THE LEAD IN BOTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

DS TECHEETAH drivers Jean-Éric Vergne and André Lotterer pulled out all the stops in today’s race in the German capital, climbing  through the pack towards the front from their start positions of P8 and P21 respectively. Jean-Éric finished the tenth round of the 2018/2019 ABB FIA Formula E Championship third, earning 15 points to extend a further championship lead in the fight for the Drivers’ title.

Despite a stellar drive up to P11 from the back after a mistake in qualifying, team-mate André suffered a battery issue and was forced to retire his car. The results from today have further propelled #dstecheetah in the Teams’ Championship title who are now 25 points ahead of its nearest rival.

Jean-Éric also leads the voestalpine European races with André in second.

Mark Preston, #dstecheetah Team Principal: “Our drivers presented another display of their incredible race craft today and we’re nothing but proud of them for their efforts. It’s great for both the team and for Jean-Éric to extend the lead in both championships even if it’s unfortunate for André to have been forced to retire after the battery issue. We’re quite confident he could have gone into the points which would have been a nice for him after this morning’s disappointment in the qualifying session where he missed the deadline to set his qualifying lap with one tenth of a second.

“We’ve got a good feeling going into Bern in the lead of the Teams’ title and with our drivers in first and third, there’s everything left to play for.”

Xavier Mestelan Pinon, DS Performance Director: “Formula E has once again offered us a fantastic race full of twists and turns. At the end of this wonderful comeback for Jean-Éric, who once again finished on the podium, we are pleased to still be leading both championships. Today was a great result for DS Automobiles and the team here in Germany!

Jean-Éric Vergne, P3: “Good day in Berlin today, I finished P3 and I’m still leading the championship. A massive thanks to the team as they worked really late to find the issue that we had on the car yesterday and to fix it for today. I had an amazing car and it was great fun to start from eighth and work myself up to the podium position. I absolutely loved it.”

André Lotterer, DNF: “It’s fair to say that today wasn’t the best day of my career. The race weekend started great yesterday when I was fastest in the practice session, but we made a mistake in the qualifying session today, meaning that I started from the back in the race. The actual race was fun, I was overtaking a lot moving up to P11 but then suffered a battery issue which finished the race early as it was overheating. On the positive side we’re still in a good position in the championship and we’ve got a quick car so I’m looking forward to Bern.”
