Fiat Panda Hybrid, the most democratic Mild Hybrid on the market

  • To follow the City Cross versions, the #panda is now available – in Urban look – with Mild Hybrid Technology, the most accessible on the market.
  • CO2 consumption and emissions are up to 20 percent lower, in addition to the tax and traffic benefits of hybrid vehicles in urban areas, depending on local regulations.
  • From the FireFly family, the new 70 hp 3-cylinder engine with Mild Hybrid Technology is paired with the 3.6 kW BSG (Belt-integrated Starter Generator) electric system and an 11 Ah lithium battery.
  • Ingenious, original, surprising: in its 40 years of history, the #fiat #panda has evolved while always remaining true to itself. It has won everyone's hearts with all the records it has broken, and is now more than ever the symbol of sustainable “Made in Italy” products.
  • To support the launch of Fiat's new Hybrid family, FCA Bank is offering a new financing scheme, in conjunction with Treedom.

Following the #panda City Cross versions, the new #panda Hybrid equipped with Mild Hybrid Technology is making its debut on the market, to broaden the availability of the engine, including in the more “Urban” model of the most popular #citycar in Europe. The #fiat #panda Hybrid is now the most accessible hybrid on the market. Furthermore, the new model offers all the benefits of an efficient, compact, lightweight and accessible hybrid powertrain. In short, it is the best #citycar solution and is perfectly in line with the approach taken by #fiat, an increasingly sustainable pioneer of technology and an innovator in mobility for the last 120 years. The new features continue the electrification journey that began in February with the launch of the #panda Hybrid Launch Edition, the exclusive special series introduced at the same time as the #fiat 500 Hybrid. The same journey continued in March with the presentation of the New 500.
The #panda and 500 are two iconic, complementary models from the #fiat brand. Together they meet their customers’ every need, and together they have resulted in the debut of the new Mild Hybrid Technology, its first appearance in FCA’s “small city car” segment. They are revolutionizing urban mobility and – thanks to their unassailable position as the best sellers in their segment – are becoming the new European benchmark for electrified urban mobility.

The new Mild Hybrid engine

The #panda Hybrid is equipped with the new gasoline Mild Hybrid engine, pairing the new 70 hp (51.5 kW) 3-cylinder 1-liter engine from the FireFly family with a BSG (Belt-integrated Starter Generator) electric motor. The latter recovers energy during braking and deceleration, stores it in a lithium battery with a capacity of 11 Ah, and uses it, at a peak output of 3.6 kW, to restart the engine in Stop&Start mode and to assist acceleration.
Compared to the 1.2 69 hp Fire, the #panda Hybrid’s Mild Hybrid engine improves fuel efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 20 percent, guaranteeing the same performance. The engine's BSG system also ensures a very high standard of driving comfort, allowing for quiet, vibration-free restarting of the combustion engine when stopping and setting off again. A new 6-speed gearbox was chosen for the transmission, designed to optimize the engine’s range of usage. Customers also benefit from all the advantages of the hybrid vehicle status of the new #panda Hybrid, which – as well as complying with the Euro 6D Final standard and depending on local regulations – include freedom of access and movement in city centers, cheaper parking in towns and tax breaks.

Metropolitan style with maximum functionality

With the “Hybrid” logo on the tailgate, the #panda Hybrid is characterized by its “Urban” soul, making it suitable for driving in the city. While very compact on the outside, the interior boasts generous comfort and extraordinary spatial modularity thanks to the numerous storage compartments and various configurations of the front and rear seats. And while the soft, rounded lines of the silhouette may elicit a complicit smile when dealing with everyday life and limited space in the city, customers can count on an ample, modular passenger compartment ideal for any kind of travel or transfer.

A model of success for “the #panda and its people”

The #panda, together with the 500, leads the #citycar segment in Europe and it has been the best-selling car in Italy for 8 years running. This year, the #panda also celebrates its 40th anniversary. Each of its three successive generations represent an unmistakable, nonconformist way to experience our daily relationships with our cars. The secrets of its popularity include its compact exterior dimensions, the large interior space that can be configured to any transportation requirement, and the wide range of engines. In fact, the #panda is the only car on the entire market with a full line-up of engines, from 4x2 and 4x4 gasoline to Hybrid, CNG and LPG. In total, more than 7.8 million customers have been won over by the simplicity and charm of the model, a true compendium of the #fiat brand.  We are now witnessing the advent of the #panda Hybrid, ready to continue revolutionizing urban mobility by meeting the new requirements of “the #panda and its people”, a global community that looks to the future with increasing respect for the environment.

D-Fence pack

On demand, the new #panda Hybrid can also be fitted with the new D-Fence by Mopar pack, consisting of three devices: a filter that stops impurities getting into the car from outside, blocks particulates and practically 100% of allergens, and reduces the formation of mold and bacteria by 98%; an air purifier inside the passenger compartment, which filters out micro-particles such as pollen or bacteria; and a UV lamp to cleanse all the contact surfaces in our cars: the steering wheel, the gear stick, and the seats.

Financing goes #green with FCA Bank

FCA Bank, the captive bank of #fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Crédit Agricole Consumer Finance, has always supported the brands with the innovative approach that forms part of its DNA, offering financing solutions to facilitate sales and help customers buy their new car.
For the launch of Fiat’s new Hybrid family, FCA Bank is offering a new financing scheme. In conjunction with Treedom – an Italian company operating in Europe since 2010, whose clients can plant a tree and follow its growth online – customers can now “adopt their own tree” and therefore contribute to safeguarding the environment by reducing CO2 emissions in the name of sustainability.

Happy Birthday to #panda: 40 years of the Italian best seller and its successes described by its stakeholders.

  • Fiat is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Italian icon with three themed videos, focusing on Powertrain, Style and Smart Solutions. In the videos, together with the managers of the respective departments, Luca Napolitano – Head of EMEA #fiat & Abarth Brands – will reveal their secrets.
  • The first video – available on Fiat’s social media channels and on YouTube at this link – tells the history of the engines and the technological innovations the #panda has brought to the #citycar segment. The special guest is Maria Grazia Lisbona, Chief Engineer, Propulsion Systems & Program Management at FCA.
  • From the first engines based on the #fiat 126 and 127 and from the Fire families, via the dual gasoline-CNG and gasoline-LPG power supplies, to the Mild-Hybrid system. The videos in the next two episodes will focus on Style and Smart Solutions.

To retrace the history of the #fiat #panda is to leaf through an album of four decades of the memories of a car that has evolved yet stayed current, while always remaining true to itself. The secret of the success of Fiat’s epitome of a #citycar lies in its suitability for any occasion. Since its launch at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show, the #panda has become known as a magic box packed full of original, ingenious and surprising ideas.
Fiat takes the Panda’s engines and technological innovations as a starting point to evoke the Italian icon's 40 years of success, in three videos – focused on Powertrain, Style and Smart Solutions. Together with three different special guests, Luca Napolitano – Head of EMEA #fiat & Abarth Brands – harks back to the past to reveal the Panda’s secrets and looks forward to the future of this timeless model. To broaden access to the hybrid powertrain even further, #fiat has decided to produce the #panda Hybrid, in Urban look. We have therefore created the most democratic Mild Hybrid on the market.

The special guest for the first video – on Powertrain – is Maria Grazia Lisbona, Chief Engineer, Propulsion Systems & Program Management at FCA. Together with Luca Napolitano, Head of the #fiat brand, she runs through the tech specs that have marked out the three generations of the #panda.

From the first engines based on the #fiat 126 and 127 in the #panda 30 and 45, to the exclusive four-wheel-drive system launched in 1983: a system as simple as it is efficient. In 1986 came the new Fire family: 4 cylinders, liquid cooling, and overhead camshaft distribution. In the same year, the #panda was also the first car in the A-segment with a diesel engine.

In 2003 came the second generation of the #panda. An even more feature-packed and barrier-breaking car, it was also packed with smart content such as the Multijet – a small direct-injection diesel engine, available since 2004. In 2006, two opposites were juxtaposed: on the one hand, the #panda 100 hp, the small sports car with a 100 hp 16-valve 1.4 engine and perfectly respectable performance (0-100 in 9.5 seconds); on the other hand, the #panda Natural Power, with an 8-valve 1.2 Fire engine and dual gasoline-CNG power supply. In 2008 came a dual gasoline-LPG power supply, too.

With the third generation of the #panda, launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Fiat's #citycar returned to Italy, with production taking place at the Pomigliano d’Arco plant. These were the years of increasing attention to sustainability, requiring environment-friendly solutions. Once again, the #panda rose to the challenge in its own inimitable way: CNG went turbo with the 80 hp TwinAir Turbo Natural Power. A supercharged engine full of panache, with a high power-to-weight ratio and the capabilities to match lower emissions and reduced consumption with the pleasure of driving.

Finally came the turn of the new FireFly family of gasoline engines, designed specifically for FCA’s compact models. The #panda has a 1-liter 3-cylinder FireFly in an aspirated 70 hp mild-hybrid version, combined with a BSG (Belt-Driven Starter Generator) electric motor with peak output of 3.6 kW. This new technology lowers consumption and emissions in typical #fiat style and draws the brand into an increasingly affordable and democratic mobility, just like the #panda does.
The celebrations for the Panda’s 40th anniversary will continue with videos focusing on Style and Smart Solutions.
