Nissan e.dams takes second podium in Formula E Berlin season finale series

Team moves to second in the championship with two races to go

BERLIN, Germany – Nissan e.dams driver Sebastien Buemi scored his second podium in round nine of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in the fourth of the six race season finale in Berlin, with the first in round seven. Oliver Rowland drove a strong race to take fifth in today's race, and sixth in round eight the day before, moving the team up to second in the team championship.

Both drivers qualified for Super Pole in today's race, locking out the second row of the grid for Nissan e.dams, with Rowland starting the race in P3 and Buemi in P4, on the traditional Berlin Tempelhof track layout.

In an intense and strategic race, with some rain in the early laps, the Nissan e.dams drivers chased the leading pair throughout, with Rowland moving into second at one point. It was only in the closing stages of the race that Rowland lost out on fourth position after a strong and precise drive.

"We're proud of our team and drivers today," said Tommaso Volpe, Nissan global motorsports director. "Seb and Oli drove a great race to P3 and P5 and worked together to chase and attack the lead cars. With this solid haul of points we move up to P2 in the team championship, and focus on securing second in the championship with two races to go next week."

Nissan participates in Formula E to bring the excitement of its powerful EV performance to racing fans worldwide, and to demonstrate the power and performance of its zero-emission EV technology.

"Great job to the entire Nissan e.dams team on a race weekend well executed," said Gregory Driot, Nissan e.dams team principal. "We had both cars in Super Pole in round nine, and Seb and Oli drove cleanly and intelligently to make sure we took away a solid haul of championship points. With two races to go in season six, we will keep pushing hard."

Staged behind closed doors at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport circuit, the last pair of three double-header races will take place on Aug. 12 and 13, on a different track layout to the prior two double-headers.

Nissan's new brand logo features across the Nissan e.dams team garage, race cars and driver suits throughout the Berlin finale. The new logo was unveiled at the July 15 world premiere of the all-new Nissan Ariya, a 100% electric crossover SUV.

DRIVER QUOTES

Sebastien Buemi
"Today was a great result for the team but I hoped Oli could have had P4 as well. Oli drove a great race and deserved more. I think P2 could have been possible for me today, but I missed a braking point for one corner and that small mistake left me with only one real chance to attack the competitor car in front for that P2. So, I couldn't make the pass. Of course, P3 and P5 for us is still a great result for the team, especially now that we are P2 in the championship. And we had strong pace in the race today, so we are very pleased with that."

Oliver Rowland
"I'm really pleased with my overall pace today, and while it's a little disappointing that our team strategy to attack the cars in front didn't work out, I am satisfied that I drove a strong and clean race for the team, scoring great points, and making the cars ahead of us work very hard all race with our constant pressure. We have two races left in the season and I think we have a car to run at the front again. I want to make sure we secure second in the championship for the team."
