In the fight against plastics and oils in the seas comes the ultimate solution.

The tragedy that is happening in our seas is no longer negligible. Pollution burdens the world's oceans, aquatic fauna is forced to coexists with plastic litter, ingesting it, getting stuck in it or dying because of it. On top of that, most of the marine litter comes directly from the rivers (about 80%).

River Cleaning intervenes right in the rivers, where it is most important to act in this battle. This Italian project is owned by #moldsrl, a company based near Vicenza that has patented River Cleaning at international level: this is the potentially global solution everyone was waiting for, to stop the spillage of plastic and oils right in the rivers, before they reach the seas. The River Cleaning model consists of an intelligent barrier made of devices that intercept and transport plastic and oily waste from the surface of the waterway to the
riverbank.

The solution, worldwide unique, can work without stopping the passage of boats of any size, thus making the River Cleaning project innovative and incomparable to any other. Moreover, the adaptability to the dimensions and features of any waterway makes possible to install the system in almost every river. Flora and fauna are not affected, as the system does not interfere with the riverine ecosystem and has zero impact on the environment, does not require energy and works 24 hours a day with little maintenance needs.

The River Cleaning project also aims at pointing out the lack of consideration of politics towards waste management and accountability for related issues. Unfortunately, not only at national level but also among the European Community, the issue of plastic pollution has been addressed ineffectively. The regulation against the disposal of plastic waste is still too loose, and we need proper rules to help each community take care of their waste before they end up dispersed in the sea, where it becomes nobody’s responsibility.

Vanni Covolo, CEO of the company, says: "The project has enormous potential and what we have been able to demonstrate so far, with the tests we have done directly in the water, responds exactly to the urgent needs of our environment. However, we need support to be able to grow further, become a key technology system in the blue economy and reach rivers all around the world."
