Herndon, VA — #Volkswagen is pleased to announce today that the 2021 #ID.4 #ev USA tour vehicle that completed a record-setting journey across the U.S. is now part of the “Building an Electric Future” exhibit at the Petersen #automotive Museum. The multimedia exhibit, which opened to the public in November 2019, celebrates Volkswagen’s rich and impactful history, both globally and locally, and showcases the design and construction of the vehicles of tomorrow.

Long-distance driver Rainer Zietlow and photographer Derek Collins began their journey in July 2021 and approximately three months later reached their final stop at #Volkswagen Group of America headquarters in Herndon, VA. The team set a record for the longest journey by an #ev in a single country.

The exhibit consists of five rooms showcasing how Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix, or MEB platform, was engineered, the variety of models that are being planned, the uniquely flexible nature of the platform and how the vehicles will be assembled. Through the incorporation of multimedia features in each room, visitors have a variety of engaging ways to visualize new challenges faced by modern automakers and explore what driving will look like in the future. The final room of the exhibit will now include the #Volkswagen #ID.4 #ev USA tour vehicle and give visitors an inside look at the company’s first all-electric SUV.

“Building an Electric Future” is the feature installation under the “Driving Toward Tomorrow” series of exhibits at the Petersen. The series addresses the automobile industry’s current work on the future of transportation design and displays actual concept vehicles being developed by a global selection of automobile manufacturers.
