ECOdolomitesGT 2022: 100% electric cars on the podium


The winners of the regularity and consumption #competition valid for the International FIA
ecoRally Cup 2022 have been awarded.

Primiero San Martino di Castrozza, Trento, November 20th, 2022 – The #ecodolomitesgt, a car sports event reserved for electric cars, ended on the evening of Saturday 19 November in Primiero San Martino di Castrozza, in the province of Trento.

The regularity and consumption e-rally, valid for the International FIA ecoRally Cup 2022, took place on open roads.  The route, departure and arrival in the Trentino town, went as far as Ortisei touching suggestive corners of the Dolomites in Trentino, Veneto and Alto-Adige, crossing several passes, from Rolle to Sella, from Gardena to Campolongo up to Cereda.

4 sectors for over 440 kilometers in total, with a maximum of about 200 kilometers between one charge and another for electric cars.   Numerous special stages for a total of over 20 kilometers, during which the drivers had towork hard to maintain the average specifications imposed by the regulations, detected by numerous "virtual" secret controls, made possible by specific dedicated control technologies.

Even on particularly demanding routes such as mountain ones, with low temperatures and rainy and snow weather conditions, all the cars in the race guaranteed excellent performance. Electric cars have faced gradients, travel times and charging times without problems".

"Characteristics - he continues - that have allowed significant increases in the electricity circulating fleet in Italy in recent years: at 31 December 2021, according to ACI data, they are practically more than double compared to the same date of the previous year, going from 53,079 to 118,034".

The #ecodolomitesgt 2022 is the last stage of the International FIA ecoRally Cup 2022, which after touching several countries, such as Spain, Czech Republic, Portugal, Slovenia and Montecarlo (MC), arrived in the Dolomite valleys to confirm the final classification.

20 cars enrolled, with crews from Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Canada, Bulgaria, Romania, Czech Republic and Slovenia.

The race saw the victory of the Italian Guido Guerrini and the Polish Artur Prusak, Italian Autotest Motorsport Team on Kia E-Niro 64 kWh, who finished first in the combined ranking of regularity and consumption valid for the International Championship. Runners-up Michal Zdarsky and Jakub Nabelek, Czech Republic, of ACCR Czech Hyundai Team on Hyundai Kona 64 kWh. The third step of the podium went to the Slovenians Franko Spakapan and Sebastjan Kobal, Team MAHLE AMD Gorica, also on Kia E-Niro 64 kWh.

Thanks to this result Guido Guerrini and Artur Prusak manage to finish second in the FIA Ecorally Cup preceded by 3 points from the Basques Conde-Sergnese. The international podium is completed by the Czechs Zdarsky and Nabelek, second in the Italian race.

Awards

The winners received special trophies that the sculptor Renzo Zeni obtained from the trees felled by the Vaia storm of 2018.  Sculptedin the same aesthetic form of the Dolomites, they represent a tribute to the places where the event takes place and a way to remember a local consequence of climate change.

Alternative feeds

As of 31 December 2021, 4,916,549 cars powered by alternative propulsion and fuels were circulating in Italy. Of these, 2,782,057 (6.99% of the total circulating) are dual petrol – LPG, 984,964 (2.47) dual petrol – CNG, 927,006 (2.33%) are petrol hybrids, 118,034 (0.30%) electric and finally 104,488 (0.26%) diesel hybrids.

All together they represent 12.35% of the circulating cars, which is equal to 39,822,723 units. An increase compared to 2020, when out of 39,717,874 units, the alternatives were worth 10.71%, while in 2019 they stopped at 9.85%.
