Strong victory for ABT CUPRA XE on the Extreme E Season 2 finale in Uruguay

  • Nasser Al-Attiyah and #klaraandersson lead the final from start to finish to underline the speed and reliability of the all-electric off-road CUPRA Tavascan XE
  • The ABT CUPRA drivers drove with lots of confidence and great pace during the whole weekend

ABT CUPRA XE ended #extremeeseason2 in triumphant style today (27 November), by winning the #energyxprix in #uruguay.

Drivers #nasseralattiyah and #klaraandersson had been quick all weekend, setting fastest time in both Q1 (before a five second penalty) and Q2, and going straight through to the final.

In dry, dusty and windy conditions, the start of the final was always going to be vitally important, and Al-Attiyah made a great get away – surviving contact at Turn One to exploit the outstanding performance of the all-electric off-road #cupratavascanxe to, after two laps of the challenging gravel circuit, enter to Switch Zone with a 3.3 second lead.

Andersson took over and made the perfect transition, extending ABT CUPRA XE’s advantage to five seconds mid-way through her first lap.

Like Al-Attiyah, she put in a faultless performance to take the chequered flag by a comfortable and unchallenged 3.42 seconds.

The team’s first race victory of 2022 moves #abtcupraxe up to sixth in the points standings, having also finished on the podium in the penultimate round of the series last time out in Chile.

A race victory has been on the cards for some time, and there was no better way to end a gruelling #extremeeseason2 in Punta del Este by celebrating on the top step of the podium!

We made a good start with full concentration and the first two laps were really amazing,” said Al-Attiyah.

It was not easy, but thanks to Klara and the CUPRA team we did an amazing weekend and we are very happy."

This win has been on the cards all season, and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us throughout 2022. We have never stopped pushing and never stopped trying to do our best and this win is for our fans!"

To have my first proper full race weekend with CUPRA and to finish top of the podium is a great feeling,” said Andersson.

We have been right up there pace-wise the entire weekend and the speed and performance of the #cupratavascanxe allowed me to just go out and enjoy my driving in the final – it was just perfect."

I could not have won without Nasser and the support of the CUPRA team of course and I am very emotional right now. The entire #energyxprix weekend here in #uruguay has been incredible.
