AIWAYS releases further details on forthcoming U5 SUV ahead of Geneva Show debut

• U5 underpinned by an innovative modular platform constructed using aluminium and high-strength steel, making it 50% stiffer and significantly lighter than equivalent steel chassis

AIWAYS, the Shanghai-based personal mobility provider, has revealed further details about its forthcoming #u5suv, set to make its official European debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The new #u5suv aims to offer customers affordable, intelligent and connected zero-emissions personal transport. 

AIWAYS has invested heavily in the design and engineering of the U5 to ensure its first product offering in Europe competes with established rivals. Underpinning the U5 is AIWAYS' innovative modular platform, which is constructed using a mix of aluminium and high-strength steel to make it stiffer for excellent handling and lighter than an equivalent all-steel frame for higher efficiency and better performance.

Technology is truly at the heart of the #aiways U5. Inside, a large dashboard dominates the cockpit and favours state-of-the-art digital display in lieu of any mechanical controls.In addition to all standard vehicle instrumentation, a ultra-high-definition screen, displays driving controls, charging functions and an intuitive voice-controlled infotainment system.

Timeless details not only provide the U5 with a stunning aesthetic, but also ensure the longevity of the vehicle for years to come.

The smooth, closed front of the vehicle – characteristic of the functional aesthetics of an #aiways electric vehicle – boasts a sharp, contoured design. Meticulous aerodynamic design follows function and contributes significantly to a class-leading drag coefficient of 0.29. Two air intakes are located on either side of the nose underneath the headlights and, along with the narrower centrally located intake, provides cooling for the battery and front brakes

The U5's powertrain features an integrated and flexible design that is smaller and lighter than any of its key rivals. Central to the U5's impressive performance is a pioneering 'sandwich' battery structure, which allows for a greater specific capacity of cells per kg while still ensuring adequate cooling and protection from damage. 

The official European debut of the #aiways U5 will take place during AIWAYS' press conference at 16:00 CET, 5 March 2019 on Stand 2220.
