A team survey among Mexican fans reveals that 76% believe they’re the “most passionate” in the world

MEXICO CITY, Mexico – The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship 10th anniversary season kicks off in Mexico City on 13 January 2024. To celebrate being voted the top supported team globally in the series, Nissan Formula E Team commissioned a survey among Mexican fans to uncover the unique aspects that they believe set them apart within the Formula E community.

Nissan Formula E Team was voted as the fan favorite globally*, securing the top spot in nine countries, including Australia, Brazil, France, Indonesia, Japan, South Africa, Spain and the United States. The team was also ranked first in Mexico, and with the country hosting the Season 10 opener, Nissan Formula E Team wanted to delve further into the fans' passion for Formula E.

The Mexico City E-Prix is renowned for its party atmosphere, driven by the 40,000-strong zealous and passionate fans that flock to the famous Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit, with the iconic Foro Sol stadium providing an atmosphere like no other.

A survey conducted by Nissan Formula E Team, involving over 1,000 motorsport fans from the country, reveals that a majority (76%) identify as the most passionate Formula E fans in the world. Among those surveyed, 71% highlighted their enthusiasm for motorsport is what sets them apart from other fans globally. Additionally, 12% believed it was their knowledge of the sport, while 11% attributed it to their friendliness and comradery.

One fan said that "without a doubt, Mexico has by far the largest and most enthusiastic motorsports fanbase," while another pointed to Formula E as the reason why Mexicans are becoming more passionate about motorsport. Most described Formula E as "exciting" and mentioned that the skill of the drivers is the key to this, underscoring the competitive nature of the championship as perceived by the fans. The findings also revealed that the personalities of the teams and drivers is what drives fan engagement.

Mexico's passionate fans have embraced Formula E since the very start of the all-electric series. They are believed to be the loudest (87%) and most passionate in the world, and Nissan Formula E Team is delighted to have been voted as the most supported team within such a significant market for the brand.

It is precisely at the famous Foro Sol grandstand where Mexican fans put on one of the best displays of this renowned passion every season. Already considered to be one of the nosiest seating areas in motorsports, this weekend Nissan Formula E Team wants to celebrate and encourage all the support from fans more than ever before. And, at the same time, also apologise to all the local residents living beside the track by handing out hundreds of ear defenders ahead of the race.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: "We always love coming to Mexico City to kick off a new season of Formula E. Now that we're heading into the 10th year, we wanted to celebrate and highlight the passion of the Mexican fans, who always show such enthusiasm for the sport. The noise and atmosphere they bring to the Foro Sol is truly one of the highlights of the season, and our team is always encouraged by the support of the crowd. Nissan has a lot of history in Mexico - it was the first place that Nissan built a manufacturing plant outside of Japan, and now it's the most sold car brand in the country. We look forward to experiencing their passion this weekend and to kick off Season 10 in the best way possible."

In addition to the team's popularity in the region, Nissan boasts the highest number of year-on-year sales in Mexico, representing 17.1% of the market share. With a longstanding history in the country, recently celebrating 60 years of operations, Nissan marked another milestone by surpassing the production of its 16 millionth engine in Mexico.
